ALTphotos – Photographic Inspiration

2

If DeviantArt and Flickr were to have a child with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), it would be ALTphotos.  ALTphotos is an online photo gallery that has more similarities with a high end art gallery in the city.  While DeviantArt and Flickr certainly have their place – they are, afterall, incredible places for feedback and learning – ALTphotos is about nothing more than photos.  As a community, it’s open to anyone willing to front the annual membership fee – which is more expensive than average (one way they keep out the not-so-serious snapshot junkies).  But it is restricted to artistic photos.  As they say on the site, it is not a place for snapshots, cute baby pictures, cute photos of your pets, pornography, or low quality shots.  It’s a much tighter community, and so quality control measures are quite strong.  The general image quality on the site is incredible.

Now I’m not saying that you should all go out and expend an exorbitant amount of cash to become a member.  It may something to consider if you’re a professional photographer or if you’re trying to earn a following.  But that’s not the real reason I bring this site to you.  This site is a bottomless pit of inspiration.  Member or not, you’ll be able to browse dozens of incredible photos.  I only discovered the site a few days ago, and I’ve already discovered a half dozen photographers that I’m now following.  So pop on over and get inspired.
