Broken Tripod

Posted on 04 January 2009 by D. Travis North

I’ve been playing around with my new lens, and I was going to set up to take a bunch of new self portraits, the way I like to practice with a new lens (see an early article, Self Portraits – Have Fun and Gain Experience).  Unfortunately, when I set up, I noticed that my pitch handle for my tripod was a little loose.  Try as I might, and I couldn’t get the thing to tighten up and the little tripod threatened to pitch my camera off it’s head.  Now that, my friends, is something I just cannot allow.  So I got out my tools to see if I could fix it…which I did…except that as I tightened the handle, it snapped the plastic and the head broke off (thankfully, my camera was not attached).

I believe this is the end of my trusty tripod…so I will have to get creative with my next set of portraits.  But now I have to spend time researching tripods, and my budget is very limited.  I was hoping that my next tripod would be a nice professional grade tripod, but there is nothing in the cards.

If anyone has any recommendations for a relatively cheap tripod, please leave post a reply and offer your suggestions.
