What Does Photography Mean To You?

Posted on 05 February 2009 by D. Travis North

We are all interested in a common medium:  Photography.  But our purpose, our goals and what we get from our hobby (or career, if the case may be) will vary from person to person.  I would very much like to understand what photography means to you.  Reply to this post with your thoughts.  Here’s a few questions you might be inclined to answer:

  1. What initially drew you to Photography?
  2. What benefit to you gain from Photography?
  3. What is your long term goal with respect to photography?

This of course helps me to better understand you, my audience.  But I think this has an added benefit to everyone – to see a different perspective.  After all, isn’t that what we do?

I will post my own response in a few days.  Hopefully, if some of you choose to respond, I will be able to provide a summary as to your responses at that time as well.  Don’t forget – if you have a blog or a website, this is a good time to do get a few shameless plugs in.

  • I have a new Nikon D40 with two lenses, a 18mm-55mm and a 55mm to 200mm. I just got a tripod and you can see the results of my first sunrise picture in the scavenger hunt post you recently referenced.

    Thank you for the link...................:)

What is your current camera setup?
  • What a great idea:

    1. I suppose what initially drew me to photography was idea of putting actions, faces, places, and most importantly, memories on paper.

    2. Over the years, I have gained an appreciation of the art of photography. I love being able to share my images with anyone who would like to see them. I've matured from taking family pictures to taking pictures of life.

    3. My long term goal is to keep learning about photography, my camera, lens, light, etc. I want to be the best photographer I can be, visit as many places as I can, and always look for the best and worst life has to offer. And of course, sharing the memories along the way.

Oh, I almost forgot the shameless plug: If you'd like to see a few pictures I've taken over the last few weeks, please feel free to hop over to my site, http://www.travelinlocal.com. I'd love to hear what you have to say..........................:)
